I expect this list to grow over time, as I find more useful resources.

http://donjon.bin.sh/ — a collection of tools for generating random NPCs, random dungeons, and much more. As of this writing (Sept 2014) there’s already a random NPC generator for 5e.

http://chaoticshiny.com/ — another collection of random generators. This list is incredibly extensive.

D&D Instant Campaign Builder — I am not sure if “instant” is a fair description. Regardless, there are a variety of useful techniques and structures in here.

The Lazy Dungeon Master — This ebook influenced my approach to prep. After reading it, I hew to the magic phrase: 3 – 5 sentences. There’s more to it than that, of course, so I encourage you to check it out.

AnyDice — For evaluating dice probabilities, especially distributions for such as 1d8+1d12 or 2d10.
