My other guess was Mercykiller (and other factions) as a “Background” trait like they do in FR (i.e. free stuff). But another suggestion on EN World that I like the best is that it’s a multiclass-only “class” like Spellscarred was. Though hopefully if they do go this way, you can take a faction feat and still be multiclassed.
Factol’s Manifesto is one of my favorite D&D books of all time, hands down.

Yeah, those are good guesses! But that also makes me wonder why they’d release it as a standalone playtest article, when up to this point what they’ve released for playtest as being pretty big.
On the other hand, I can’t imagine that what they release from Adventurer’s Vault 2 that would compare to the complexity of a class. I’m guessing it’s some new category of experimental item, so maybe this’ll Mercykiller bit will be more on par with that.
I actually bought a copy of Factol’s Manifesto in a used book store a year or two ago, along with a few other Planescape books. Unfortunately I didn’t buy all the ones there, and I’m still kicking myself.
